Privacy Policy and DEI

DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION

Downey Side is committed to serving all waiting children, as they represent a wonderful rainbow of both differences and shared humanity to be celebrated.

Our experience demonstrates that these differences do not have to divide but rather can serve to strengthen us. As such Downey Side is committed to reflecting this diversity in program and management.

This commitment enables us to build a team with a diverse set of skills from a wide array of backgrounds, in turn providing our clients with the most innovative and creative solutions to their concerns. As such, we recognize Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as integral to Downey Side’s mission of finding families for waiting children.

ONLINE PRIVACY POLICY

We at Downey Side respect the privacy of every individual who contacts us. We are grateful for your support and the crucial role you play in helping us continue our essential work. As part of our commitment to safeguarding your privacy we have adopted the online privacy policy outlined below.  This Privacy Statement may be changed or updated at any time.

Please note: this privacy policy applies to website visitors only. We are in compliance with all HIPAA regulations which apply to Downey Side’s clients and consumers.

COLLECTION AND USE OF INFORMATION

We collect two kinds of information from our website visitors: site usage data, which is not individually identifiable, and individually identifiable information, which is provided, voluntarily, by the visitor.

SITE USAGE DATA

Our Web server automatically recognizes and collects the domain name of each visitor to our website. We collect information about visitors to our site, such as the number of visitors, what pages they access, and the length of their visit. This information is used in aggregate form in order to manage our website and improve its content.

INDIVIDUALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION

We collect individually identifiable information about you when you choose to share information about yourself, for example, when you make a donation or request further information about adoption. We use individually identifiable information to provide you with information or to deliver the service you have requested. We maintain this information on a proprietary database. If you provide your postal address, telephone number or e-mail address to The Foundling online, you may receive periodic contacts from us.

We do not make our constituent email or postal addresses available to any third parties.

EMAIL COMMUNICATIONS

We occasionally send out an email newsletter and email communications to update our constituents on Downey Side programs and newsworthy events. You may elect not to receive communications from us by contacting us by postal mail with your request. In addition, Foundling email communications have easy-to-follow “unsubscribe” instructions at the bottom of each email.

LINKS TO OTHER SITES

The Downey Side website provides links to other websites including our community partners and sponsors. Please note, Downey Side is not responsible for the privacy practices of linked sites; we encourage you to review the privacy policy of each site you visit.

SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY

Downey Side engages with our community via Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram through our official pages.  Our goal is to foster a positive environment through this means and assist members of Downey Side and friends to communicate with the agency and with each other.

Please remember that, as a voluntary member of the Facebook community, you are responsible for any correspondence or communication you have with individuals on any Facebook page.

We ask that all “fans” of Downey Side respect the interests and views of other fans of the Facebook or other pages.  The administrators of Downey Side reserve the right to delete comments/posts that may be considered offensive or threatening.  Downey Side administrators may report or block any fan whose postings or comments the agency deems inappropriate.  Any concerns regarding the use or administration of Downey Side’s Facebook page should be directed to the CentralOffice@DowneySide.org.

The same protocols listed above for Facebook should be followed in letter and spirit across LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram.

CHILDREN ONLINE

Protecting the privacy of the very young is especially important. For that reason, we adhere to the 1998 Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). For more information, visit the Federal Trade Commission’s COPPA site. Whenever we collect or maintain information at our website from children we actually know are under 13, we obtain parental consent before any personally identifiable information is collected, used or disclosed. We also follow strict rules when sending email; and we provide parents reasonable access to information collected from their children, and the ability to correct or remove that information.

SECURITY

In order to prevent unauthorized access and protect our site users’ personal information, we strive to maintain physical, electronic and administrative safeguards to secure the information we collect online. For example, online contributions are processed using a secure server. This secure server software, SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), encrypts all information you input before it is sent to us. Furthermore, all of the customer transactional data we collect is protected against unauthorized access with the use of digital certificates.
